#167 - Do the Dew

or: it's Switch Stardew Valley update day babeeeey!!!

#167 - Do the Dew

Stardew Valley is my favorite video game.

I love many video games, but Stardew is the peanut butter to my jelly. Everything I ever want and love wrapped up in a sweet little package and the creator seems like a geniunely good dude who remains incredibly generous about updates and I'm glad I bought the expensive board game that my ex took with her in the move despite the fact that I bought it and we never played it because otherwise I've only bought the game twice and I've given EA like over $500 across the Sims 4 and only spent $30 total on Stardew Valley.

The new update comes out for the Switch in about two hours. I already played some of it on the computer months ago, but I learned how to play on the switch so it's always going to be my preffered method. Also I was working a lot back then and didn't love sitting at my computer outside of that capacity.

It's a lovely little slice of life, where farming isn't backbreaking and everyone in the town is a little closed-off at first but through the power of gifts and friendship have their lives transformed by love and community.

It's fucking great and there's cute little town events (VERY Gilmore Girls coded) and a little horse that you can ride around town in order to go faster and that's all I need to give a game a 10/10 tbh and this game has so much MORE than that!

I want to drink coffee at a little late night festival on a dock in winter, dammit!

Spending Election Eve distracting myself because it feels like at best we're getting net neutral and then we're going to have to continue to work hard because "most lethal fighting force" in the world is not how I want my tax dollars spent but she would, of course, be better to have in office than the rapist who is running against her.

I don't know where the Republican party goes from here but I hope it's far far away from me. Take the conspiracies and lack of empathy and learn how to read for a few years and then we can start doing some untangling work but like SHEESH at the end of all of this I simply do not have the energy to care about people's feelings who think women don't deserve bodily autonomy.

I haven't been listening to political podcasts for like the past week because it just feels like ...this is it. It's here and it's happening and at least after tomorrow/Wednesday it will Change. Something else might be happening (and what fun a light coup will be to squash) like omg imagine if after all of this Biden refuses a peaceful transfer of power. I know he won't and blah blah blah but wouldn't that just be a fucking howl?

I don't want to make any assumptions or promises because I'm nervous despite all of the logic. This isn't logical, this is a hostage situation that like 6 states have the ability to negotiate.

I will be voting at 6:15 am tomorrow, because I like to get there Early but not Too Early when they don't have pens and stuff set up yet. Let them get the kinks out with the folks who stand in line and then I breeze on through a little later.

If I don't get great sleep (and, I probably won't) I'll probably go get a coffee/treat after voting (dunkin' munchkins anyone?) and play a stardew in bed until I fall asleep. And then I'll wake up and clean my house with all the nervous energy I have and then my best friend and I plan on making sangria and watching something while also flipping back to see whats reporting.

Being on the west coast was wayyyy better in terms of finding information out at normal times, but it's also NYC BABEEEEY and we WILL go shout from rooftops once again if we once again avoid having that rapist hold the office of the presidency.

It sucks, the world kind of sucks. But Stardew doesn't!

And that's balance. And coping. And it's okay to not be okay as long as you're not harming yourself or others while you burrow into your bedsheets and make a farm with a Sopranos theme despite starting a Gilmore Girls podcast like...this literal week.

It's gonna be okay, we're all in this together, I love you Stardew and I hope @concernedape knows he is one of the people I think of when I want to remember that not everyone is greedy and meaningful art really can change the world.

Okay, phew. 7/7!
