#146 - Hope Scrolling
or: save me nancy pelosi (/sincere)
I was offline for a grand total of 18 minutes this week and in that time, Joe Biden stepped down from the presidential race.
So I got to find out the news via a very excited FaceTime with the person who has been listening to me have breakdown (lite) all week long. The best possible way!!!
This week has been marked by struggling – I haven't been able to focus, I've been despondent, and the vibes have been a little hopeless. I've been basically tranquing myself with edibles in order to sleep.
BUT NOT ANYMORE BABEEEEY!
WE DID IT WE MADE THEM ACKNOWLEDGE THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE!!!!!!!!
Oh I feel so alive. Better than I've felt in months. Years, potentially.
Ever since this whole "railroad him through the primary" thing started it's been rough. I've never been more grateful to my past-self than realizing that I had actually written extensively about how much I resented the democrats for mistreating their base because it made me remember that I was on the sane side of history these past few months.
He was never the right choice. BUT NOW HE'S NOT THE CHOICE WE HAVE TO MAKE HAHAHAHAH YAAAAAAAY!!!!
Is Kamala my favorite of the 2020 hopefuls? SHE SURE AS SHIT IS NOW!
(for the record, I was a Warren girlie.)
Honestly I think I've been #coconutpilled ever since I found out Kamala's strategy vs. Trump if he started following her around like he did Hilary would be to turn to him and ask him why he's being so weird.
I think that would work!
She's fun! She's got a great laugh! She says weird shit that becomes more profound the longer you goof on it, a very California skill tbh!
THE DEM CANDIDATE ISN'T THE OLDEST CANDIDATE IN HISTORY ANYMORE, THE REPUBLICANS IS!
WHEEEEE!
Mid-breakdown on Thursday I tweeted for Nancy Pelosi to save me. And ol' girl gnawed her way through some Slim Jim's and delivered the American people one final bundle of hope, couriered direct from the windy hills of San Fransisco.
Someone on Twitter joked that today was a rare day of Hope Scrolling and I AGREE! It's so nice to have good news in the sea of shit news we've endured.
Things can change. Unions are back in a BIG way (even the Teamsters are mad about the--actually somewhat well-written--speech given at the RNC and they should be Trump is terrible for unions) and we're going to be able to hammer Trump about his sexual assault CONVICTIONS without any weird responses from the GOP. And yeah the dems could have done that anyway, but they wouldn't have with Joe running.
AND NOW HE'S NOT! SO WE CAN! BYEEEE! BYE JOE!
&& Hello future Madame President Kamala Harris!
Let's doooo this! Get phone bankin'! Knock on doors, tell your neighbors, send your conservative family members (and only the conservative ones) the cop memes!
Can't wait for the democratic candidate's website to actually have a POLICY PAGE. Can't wait to hear the words "medicare for all" uttered by someone with the power to make it so. Can't wait for someone who was actually an attorney general to get her hands on the Supreme Court's bullshit. CaNNOT wait for the second debate. Put a mic in her hand and let 'er RIP.
Mikes totally right! But the alternative is an unapologetic fascist who got shot at last week and has been convicted of raping women so like, let's GO Kamala I believe in you babe I'll text and call whoever you need me to.
I'm so glad I didn't vote for Joe in the primary. I'm so proud of the uncommitted movement and those of us who held out hope and declared that we wouldn't have to vote for the man supplying Israel with seemingly infinite weapons so they can continue their genocidal campaign against men, women, children, doctors, aid workers, and all the innocent Palestinian's who have died in a terrorist campaign run by an occupying force.
There will be a specific narrative created about how his stepping down is the sign of what a great Statesman he is. But I'll remember that who he actually revealed himself to be is a genocidal narcissist. I hope he's brought to The Hague in the next few months to face consequences for his actions.
I'm glad he stepped down. He should resign as well but I'll take wins where I can get them!
There is hope. There is hope for a better future. There is hope that we are being listened to. That our voices matter. That when we take things seriously, serious things will happen.
Fuck Peter Thiel and Roy Cohn's protegees, the self-hatred of those men will not destroy democracy, it will instead be the catalyst for the largest fight against impending fascism ever seen.
Get in loser, we're saving democracy.
Okay, well. Hi!! Hope everyone had as great a Sunday as I did. (I got cake from the corner bakery to celebrate and my best friend put candles in them so we made wishes and got high and we're also reading 1984 and I'm having a lot of thoughts so more on that soon!)
Wishing everyone a great, happy, healthy, HOPEFUL week. May the power grids come back on, may our government pretend to care about us once more, may the people remember just how much power they have!!!!
Have you read The Communist Manifesto yet? Quick! Fun! Powerful! My yearly goal of getting people to actually read it continues, check it off your to-do list today!
And just because it's funny and Sorkin weirdly endorsed the democrats nominating...Mitt Romney just this morning, please enjoy my favorite moment from any political documentary: Romney ironing a shirt that's already on his body and saying "ooch! ouch!" for way too long before his wife tells him to stop.
